The JEMStar II supports Verizon, Sprint and GSM (such as AT&T, T-Mobile, etc.). The 4G LTE cell modem is inside the meter, ‘under the glass,’ which eliminates the need to install and wire a separate unit and provides the added advantage of using the meters secure packaging. This new cell modem also features additional enhancements, including:
- 8 simultaneous connections
- Internal or external antenna (dependent on application)
- Firmware updates over the air (FOTA)
- Support of access point names (APN) and whitelisted IPs
- Support for customer SIM’s
The 4G LTE cellular connection can be used for all meter communications, including meter configuration, retrieval of billing information to AMETEK software or third-party software applications and transmitting real-time measurements via DNP. For added security, the configurable ‘whitelist’ restricts access to specific IP addresses and prevents unauthorized access. All other meter communications (Optical, serial ports, dual Ethernet) can be utilized at the same time.
