Fall in Love with Digital Fault Recorders

Have you considered that your Protective Relays may be falling short on delivering the data you need? AMETEK Power Instruments’ advanced Multi-Function Digital Fault Recorders (DFRs) are your knight in shining armor.

Our DFRs come to the rescue by collecting disturbance related data and allowing enhanced analysis by harnessing true fault recorder capabilities and functionality that Protection Relays provide minimal data for. Fall in love with the advantages our DFRs can provide your application:
  • Relays have limited recording capability
    • Most legacy products can record no more than 60 cycles of data
    • The limited memory isn’t enough to capture full sequence of Trip / Close / Trip / Close / Lockout
  • Relays can only see the quantities from one line, while a DFR can monitor and record all lines at an entire substation
    • If only one relay trips, there is no way to know how the rest of the system was impacted without the advanced capabilities of a DFR
  • If the relay doesn’t respond to the trigger quantity, then nothing is recorded (many have limited numbers of triggers)
    • A DFR has multiple analog and digital triggers that can be used to capture events that happen even when a relay doesn’t trip
  • If the relay doesn’t trip, there is no data available for analysis, whereas a DFR will capture data that may indicate possible relay configuration issues, settings or malfunctions that prevented proper tripping
    • Offers an extra layer of security when a DFR checks the relays to ensure they are properly configured
  • Analysis of data from multiple relays requires downloading and all recording parameters must be configured correctly for proper analysis
    • With a DFR, all line of the substation are included in a single fault record, which simplifies the data retrieval and analysis process
  • Using DFRs allows you to use a mix of relay brands without concern over trying to merge data from different relay manufacturers
  • DFRs excel all regulatory requirements for sequence of events, transient fault and disturbance recording

If those aren’t reason enough to upgrade to DFRs, there is even more to be smitten with our TR-3000 and DR-300 Multi-Function Digital Fault Recorders. We’ve designed our recorders to make it easy to install, configure, operate and conduct waveform analysis. They are 100% software configurable which means no jumpers or switches to be manipulated. The compact modular, future-proof architecture allows for true scalability with unmatched flexibility to add additional input modules within the chassis to fit any needs. They feature a dedicated processor/memory per Input Module, redundant power supplies, hot swappable Input Modules and dual independent Ethernet ports. The solid state design incorporates a low power, fan-less operation with no moving parts. We stand by our quality-built recorders and back them with a five-year warranty.
