Is It Time To Upgrade Your Frame Turbine Thermocouples and Cables?

Do you have an older Frame Turbine that continues to give you problems? Whether it is exhaust leaks from insulation breakdown or components failing before their recommended change over, we have some upgrade options that might make outage season easier for your I&C team. Over the years, we have worked closely with turbine manufacturers to increase reliability, functionality and ease of installation for those who work with thermocouples and cables. If you have an older turbine and you would like to upgrade it to the latest revision and technology, we have options for you. Just one example of how we can help:

Exhaust T/C

Do you currently have the style of T/C that is one solid piece that feeds into your radiation shield and routes all the way around your turbine back to the junction box? If you do, we want you to know that we have options for you to get out of that old design and into something that makes outages and failures much easier on your I&C team.

Current Design

The design below has its pros and cons. Pro is that it is one solid piece of MI cable that goes from your airstream to your junction box that reads back to your Mark controller. Con is that when one fails, the turbine must come to room temperature in order for it to be replaced.

Current Retrofit Kit Design

Newer Design

The upgrade below replaces your existing design and gives your team the ability to change the unit out during turbine operation. There is no need for it cool because the studded mounting configuration allows you to replace the failed probe and reuse the cable that feeds back to your junction box. Like above, there are pros and cons to each configuration.

Newer Thermocouple Kit Design
Pros

  • When a failure occurs, only the T/C needs to be replaced
  • You can reuse the existing cable assembly
  • Reduces down time and scrap from the old design

Cons

  • Need to purchase a T/C and cable assembly
  • Initial changeover cost is more expensive but maintenance costs after the change significantly decrease
  • Typically requires work to be done during a major outage

We understand how critical it is to keep your turbine running when it is most needed. Unexpected trips and extended down time due to premature failures is a power plant’s worst nightmare. Let us help you solve your problems one step at a time to ensure your turbine is operating at its peak performance!
